The 2011 Annual Scholarship Fund Dinner, to benefit Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, was held Oct. 12 at the Waldorf Astoria.

Maria Bartiromo, News Anchor CNBC, was the dinner’s honoree. She attended St. Bernadette’s Elementary School in Brooklyn.

At a time when western society is self-destructing and everyone is pointing to education as the way to fix the world’s problems, Catholic educators need to be clear and sure about the ‘treasure’ they’ve been given, so they can live it and pass it on.

Had Catholics in Europe and the U.S. (since the late 1800s) been more faithful to the Lord, Catholic anthropology, and to the social teaching of the Church, individuals and society would be less damaged than they are today.

“Whole nations are waiting for help in the process of physical and spiritual reconstruction of our shattered culture.” Robert Ulich, The History of Educational Thought (1950)
