At the Synod on the Family, going on these days in Rome, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz (Pres. USCCB) said that many of his fellow bishops “believe that anything we can do to assist with the annulment process — to streamline it, is worth doing.” He added that he’s “never seen anyone protesting, that this person should never have gotten one.”

Actually there are countless people (conscious or not) who have been adversely affected by numerous spurious annulments granted over the years. No doubt some have even left the Church over it.

At the heart of the annulment race is untruthfulness and immaturity—making dried twigs of us. The unfaithfulness of many in the hierarchy is contributing to the difficulties of married people today.

The Church should help its members know who they are. Illegitimate annulments can leave people not knowing who they are.
