“It was this salvation that the prophets were looking and searching so hard for, their prophecies were about the grace which was to come to you…Free your minds, then, of encumbrances; control them, and put your trust in nothing but the grace that will be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Do not behave in the way that you liked to before you learnt the truth; make a habit of obedience: be holy in all you do, since it is the Holy One who has called you, and scripture says: Be holy, for I am holy.” Peter 1: 10-16
“…through which he has granted us the very great and precious promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption of the lust which is in the world. Do you accordingly on your part strive diligently to supply your faith with virtue, your virtue with knowledge, your knowledge with self control, your self-control with patience, your patience with piety, your piety with fraternal love, your fraternal love with charity.” 2 Peter 1:3-7
Peter also cautions: “There will be false prophets also among the people, just as among you there will be lying teachers who will bring in destructive sects. They even disown the Lord who bought them…” 2 Peter 2:1
The Church has been blessed throughout the centuries with popes who have professed that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Lord, and confirmed their brothers and sisters in the faith. Today we have a situation where the successor of Peter is an apostate — who has repeatedly denied the words of Jesus Christ, been presumptuous with the Father, blasphemed the Holy Spirit — and undermined the faithfulness of individuals. Theology aside, one need only look at the norms violations in the voting process that elected him to conclude that Francis is illegitimate and self-excommunicated, and should resign or be removed from the papacy as soon as a council can be formed..
